MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT

Urban Transport That Just Works

What if urban transport just worked?

Almost no one looks forward to their morning commute.

A delayed train, a bus that runs 3 minutes early or 5 minutes late, or a shortage of taxis on a rainy winter’s day can ruin your day even before it has really begun. Even when things work somewhat smoothly there are inevitably wasted minutes on subway platforms or sitting in traffic waiting for a light to turn green for longer than a few seconds that leave every commuter thinking that there must be a better way.

What if there was a better way?

What if the bus you caught from home to the station arrived just in time for the train into the city center? What if the train arrived on time and you could confidently hit the street to collect a city-sponsored share bicycle to take you the last half mile to the office? And what if, at the end of the day, things went as smoothly as they did in the morning so you arrived home feeling fit and fresh instead of fatigued and fatalistic?

In other words, what if urban transport just worked?

Cosmo Tech is working with one of Europe’s leading research institutions, IRT SystemX, to develop MIC, an application that is dedicated to optimising multimodal transport systems in urban environments. Not only does it offer municipalities and transport service providers a way to model and simulate their interconnected systems to better align with their customers while recognising their constraints, it is also offering commuters a glimpse into a not-so-distant future where the morning commute won’t be feared, but favoured.

It’s the future of multimodal urban transport and, thanks to Cosmo Tech and IRT SystemX, it’s closer than ever.

IRT SystemX is is one of eight Technology Research Institutes (IRT) created by the French government. Based in Paris, SystemX gathers the best engineers and scientists from industry leading companies, public research institutions, and innovative startups to work on energy, transportation, telecommunications, and security projects. Cosmo Tech has worked closely with IRT SystemX on smart territories projects for some years and Cosmo Tech co-founder, Executive Chairman, and CEO of Cosmo Tech US, Michel Morvan, sits on the IRT SystemX board.

The MIC Project

IRT SystemX and Cosmo Tech

Today’s multimodal transport is so diverse in its possibilities that it requires powerful modeling and simulation tools in order to optimize its design, improve operations, and increase its robustness in case of an emergency or a crisis. Cosmo Tech’s modeling and simulation technology is perfectly suited to account for each part of a complex urban transport system and help plan the optimal strategic meshing of interconnected transport modes into a single, smoothly-functioning whole.
